I read about their trip in the Chicago Tribune a while back and thought it was cool. I was even a little envious of them getting to do it. But I think they
took things a little too far defacing the sign they defaced. Have you seen a picture of the sign? There's one at the Grammar Sleuth blog - http://grammarsleuth.wordpress.com.
